Wilt Chamberlain: Welt Padding, Paintball Welts in a Lifetime

I’m sure you’ve seen the Wilt and the Magic, and that’s the kind of movie that makes me want to tear up, and then there’s this guy named Michael Jordan, who’s the best player ever to wear a basketball.

So I was really looking forward to playing in that.

When I got my first chance to play with him, I was just amazed.

The way he used the ball.

I think I could have won the NBA Finals.

That was my first experience.

You don’t want to miss that.

[laughs] You want to have that experience.

So my first game with Wilt was at a game I remember, and I think he was playing against this guy who was named Bob Cousy, who was a great player, a great coach.

So Wilt just took it to the next level.

I was so proud to be a part of that, to be around him.

He was just so fun.

So he was just one of those guys that you didn’t want him to be out there.

And he was really good at it.

He would shoot it like a duck.

You never saw him miss, and he could shoot it so hard.

So you could just feel it in your bones.

[sighs] And he played like he was at the end of his career, too.

He still had those big hands.

He could still dribble.

He did so much.

So, yeah, he was a lot of fun to play against.

[pause] I didn’t know how much I wanted to play.

I wanted more.

I didn and I still do.

I just wanted to get out there and compete.

I had a great team around me.

And I was going to do it for the rest of my life, too, if I could.

You know, it was just a dream.

That’s how much it was.

That dream is still in my heart.

And that’s why I’ve been working hard to do something for my family.

And hopefully I’ll be able to make it.

I don’t know if it’ll happen, but it’s definitely something that I’m excited about.

[picks up a basketball] I think that’s my only shot.
